A team from ACCRE led by Alan Tackett, attended the REDDnet (Research and Education Data Depot Network) Tools and Applications Development Meeting on December 4th, held in conjunction with the Internet2 Fall Member Meeting and 10-year Anniversary Celebration at the Hyatt, McCormick Center, Chicago, Illinois. The focus of the meeting was to identify how Logistical Storage (L-Store) will be used on the REDDnet infrastructure, so as to benefit the Logistical Networking Scientific Community.
This one-day meeting brought together leaders from REDDnet's varied application communities, software developers, and Logistical Network (LN) researchers to showcase the capabilities of this new national cyberinfrastructures, share user experiences, educate the Internet 2 community about available software tools, and chart the directions for future growth.
The meeting was led by Paul Sheldon from Vanderbilt University, lead PI of REDDnet, and Micah Beck from the University of Tennessee, a leader of the LN computer science research community. Participants included scientists and teachers from several REDDnet application communities (e. g., Particle Physics, Geospatial/Satellite data, Astrophysics, Electron Microscopy, and Fusion Energy), as well as application and middleware developers, IT researchers, and international partners, both academic and commercial. The agenda focused on real world experience and practical applications. Directions of future LN research and development were also discussed. Presentations and panel discussions included the following topics:
- Experiences of REDDnet application communities and collaborators
- Tutorials on REDDnet middleware and tools, such as L-Store, LoDN, and StoreCore
- Performance results using REDDnet for data logistics
- Activities of REDDnet's international partners
- Deploying REDDnet on a campus LAN
- Plans for future expansion and new tools for REDDnet
