ACCRE participated in the Undergraduate Open House organized by the Vanderbilt Center for Toxicology and the Vanderbilt Center for Structural Biology.
The Open House reaches out to and recruits undergraduates from nearby universities, in particular those with strong minority programs, in order to attract them to Vanderbilt for their graduate studies. It was originally organized by the Toxicology Center. The "Molecular Biophysics Graduate Training Program Recruiting Committee" and the Center for Structural Biology have since joined this event.
These Open Houses include presentations from faculty members on the research opportunities that are available to graduate students, tours of the research facilities, and presentations from graduate students giving an overview of their graduate experiences. Eight labs and centers were selected to conduct tours as part of the Open House. ACCRE was invited by the Center for Structural Biology to participate. We led four 30 minute tours of the compute cluster to groups of 10-15 students.
Overall the Open House was successful with over 100 visitors attending. Nearly half of these were interested in the ACCRE cluster and a total of 50 came through our center. We intend to participate again next Fall.
